Sunday March 22 Update

To all members and friends of Emmanuel Chapel,

Like you, we have been considering the constantly changing developments in the ongoing outbreak of the coronavirus. We have come to the conclusion that the best course of action for us is to follow the 3/16/2020 update-in-guidance from the CDC: “During the next 15 days, all U.S. events of 10+ people should be cancelled or held virtually.” With regret, we are cancelling Emmanuel Chapel’s worship services scheduled for 3/22 and 3/29. We will update you here if further cancellations are necessary.

To encourage you in your personal and family worship at home the next two Sundays, you will find new messages posted on our website. On March 22, you will find a new message by Bill Edgar on Psalm 13, as we wrap up our “Winter in the Psalms” series. Then on March 29, you will find a new message that is currently percolating in my heart and mind, about how the coronavirus can actually help us learn some crucial things about life and death.

Until we can be with each other again, we are being urged to practice “social distancing.” Personally, I think a better phrase would be “physical distancing” – staying home, and staying at least 6 feet from others when out and about for necessities. In addition, I would encourage us all to be practicing what I would call, “distant socializing.” We live in an age of social media, when it has never been easier to be in touch with each other without being physically together. So please reach out to each other with phone calls, texts, and the various live video options available. Talk together, pray together. Love and listen well. Love is stronger than the coronavirus. This is the time for “distant socializing.”

Stay well. Stay hopeful. Stay connected. And stay home. Jesus is with you there.

Warmly in Christ,
Pastor John
